Settlement Videos

"The art of settlement videos or 'day in the life' films is to convey as much information as favorably as possible without being overly dramatic or cloyingly sentimental. Lorna consistently succeeds in doing that."

Lorna’s Qualifications

Lorna is an experienced filmmaker with a legal background, storytelling expertise, outstanding editing skills and a compassionate interview approach.

Video Goals

Lorna’s settlement videos humanize plaintiffs and powerfully establish damages. Weaving together interviews and visuals, the videos profoundly show the depth and extent of each loss.

The End Product

Lorna builds a professional, layered edit that maximizes interview clips, visuals, photos, and more. The result is a settlement video that is moving, convincing, and sincere, without overdoing it. Lorna’s videos have moved even stubborn adversaries to settle favorably, exceeding Plaintiffs’ goals.

Types of videos:

Wrongful Death Videos

"In the last two years, Lorna has produced three settlement videos for my wrongful death cases. Her videos are REMARKABLE...."

Our videos have portrayed the tragic loss of children, young adults, parents, elderly grandparents and deceased victims in almost every life stage in between.

Who we interview

For each wrongful death video, Lorna interviews family members, friends, teachers, and colleagues, aiming for their most genuine, truly heartfelt expressions of love and loss. (The number of people interviewed is tailored to each video’s needs and goals.)

Covering the issues

At the same time, Lorna always keeps in mind and covers the critical legal points. Her legal background facilitates her understanding of the issues as she creates the video.

Making it work

Powerful interview excerpts are edited with pre-existing photos and video (when available), as well as accident photos, to create a vivid and impactful wrongful death settlement video. Each video viscerally tells the story of a special person whose life was cut short by the fault of another/others, the terrible pain and grief suffered by those left behind, and the victim’s future potential that has been lost. The end product is a tribute to the deceased, a vision of their lost potential, and an expression of the suffering of those left behind.

Conveying the challenges

Our Day in the Life videos convey the grim challenges of daily life with a catastrophic injury, starting in the morning through bedtime. We weave in interviews and photos that vividly express the full “Before” life of the clients versus their excruciating “After” life, showing their painful loss of function and fulfillment.

The client’s experience

We are especially well-qualified to help a catastrophically injured client through the production of a Day in the Life video. Our approach is empathetic and in tune with the special needs and pacing of the client. We have been successful in making the most skeptical client end up with a positive and empowering experience.

Conveying catastrophic

Lorna’s attorney clients have heard from adjusters and defense counsel that our Day in the Life video convinced them of the true catastrophic nature of a plaintiff's injuries, which resulted in a higher settlement. One adjuster wrote that the word "catastrophic" is used frequently, but after watching our video, he knew what the word actually meant.

Trial Applications

We can also make video sequences of the client’s Day in the Life experiences to be presented and described at trial, such as physical therapy sessions and various daily challenges.

One client, whose injuries had resulted in paraplegia, initially was quite reluctant to participate in a video, and he let us know it. But with Lorna’s heartfelt approach, as we proceeded, he became deeply involved and enthusiastic...By the end of the day, he couldn’t stop thanking us for his empowering experience making the video, and he invited us to his family’s reunion picnic the next weekend.

Serious Injury Videos

"Lorna Soroko is a brilliant producer who has made three serious injury videos for our firm."

Why it works

We've made settlement videos for cases involving injuries such as dog bites, soft tissue damage, broken bones, and shoulder issues. In each case, the videos have been able to visually convey the impact of the injury on the client’s life.

We’ve been told that the videos do what’s impossible to get across through written descriptions in demand letters or medical reports.

How they’re different

Serious injury videos are shorter, with fewer interviews, but with the same impact of genuine storytelling, use of pre-existing photos, and persuasive editing style.

Feedback from settlement judges, insurance adjusters, and mediators shows that our serious injury videos make a positive impact on case settlements.
